Having been a court reporter for over 30 years, I've had the opportunity to learn
"a little bit" about "a lot of things". But never in my wildest dreams did I think my
career would take me to the place it did in 2011.
It sounded like an extremely interesting case from the very beginning. USA v
Kobagaya. The first case of its kind tried in the United States, the charge in the
Indictment was document fraud. Not a particularly "interesting" charge. To prove
the charge, however, the Government had to prove that 84 year-old Lazare
Kobagaya, a native of Burundi, Africa, now living in Topeka, Kansas, USA, was a
leader/organizer in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, Africa, a "civil war" that
resulted in 500,000 to 800,000 people being murdered in less than 90 days in a
small Central African country barely the size of the State of Maryland.
Yes, I learned "a little bit" about an era of our World's history from people that
survived and people that participated in the Rwandan Genocide, the "civil war"
they call it.

FORT SUMTER BOAT TOUR .. the Island Fort where the Civil War began:
Decades of growing strife between North and South erupted in civil war on April
12, 1861, when Confederate artillery opened fire on this Federal fort in
Charleston Harbor. Fort Sumter surrendered 34 hours later. Union forces would
try for nearly four years to take it back.
Fort Sumter Tours is an authorized National Park Service concessioner. We
provide the only commercial boat transportation to Fort Sumter, the island fort
where the Civil War began. The cruise yachts carrying you to Fort Sumter are
U.S. Coast Guard inspected passenger vessels. They are clean, safe and
equipped with snack bars and restroom.
After boarding, you will experience a relaxing 30-minute cruise through
Charleston's historic harbor out to Fort Sumter. The tour is fully narrated and
explains many points of interest and historic significance. You will learn about the
major events which led to the outbreak of America's most bloody war. At Fort
Sumter National Park, historians will provide detailed information about Fort
Sumter and its pivotal role in the War between the States. There is a museum
with fascinating exhibits and a small gift shop for your enjoyment. After your tour
